Possible errors and glitches when installing themes.

In some cases, after uploading files to the site and trying to update, you may encounter the fact that instead of correctly displaying the site, you get an error message that the server transmits. Something like this:

Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by….

This error means that the system is warning you that some of the files you uploaded to the site have an unsupported encoding. As a rule, WP blogs work in UTF-8 encoding. Accordingly, the theme files you uploaded to wp-content/themes should also be UTF-8 encoded.
Such errors occur because changes in php files are often made using the usual Notepad. Notepad is known to leave a lot of “trash” in the files it saves – extra foreign characters, etc. All this interferes with normal operation of the system. All this interferes with the normal operation of the system. Problems remain even if you choose UTF-8 instead of ANSI (the traditional Notepad encoding) when saving a file.

One way to solve the problem is to check the file encoding of the theme you uploaded and change it to UTF-8. Since Notepad is not a good tool for this, use Notepad 2, which is an excellent tool for editing web documents.

Open the theme files in that program, choose the Encoding option in the File menu, select the UTF-8 encoding and re-save.

This article is about how to change various elements and transform the appearance of a blog without any special knowledge of HTML and CSS.

Immediately I want to say that now many of the themes that are released in recent years, have their own settings in the admin area of the site itself. And here there is an opportunity in the tab “Appearance”, to change settings in the graphical editor of appearance.

But what if those settings do not exist or they do not suit you for some reason, but the theme of the template is very like and well suited. So how to make some adjustments?

Now let’s try to understand this topic and learn how to change some of the styles.
How to edit a wordpress template – let’s start with the easiest

Let’s start with the simplest things. We go to our blog and look. For example, we want to change the width of the text box under the content. Increase it by narrowing down the area of the right sitebar (the right column) a little bit.

To do this is very easy. Right-click on the area you want to change, in our case, it is now a website bar, and choose View Element Code from the drop-down menu.

Do it preferably in the browser Google Chrome, other browsers also support this function, but I’m used to doing it in Chrome.

At the bottom of an additional window will appear full-width screen, where we can see the code of the page and the individual element, as well as all the CSS styles to a specific area or an element.

You can also make some changes beforehand and see the result right there in your browser, which is pretty handy.

Still we can immediately find out where we need to tweak already in the template to make changes take effect.

When you hover your mouse over a line (the left area), you see at the top that a certain element or area of the pattern is highlighted. This means that this line of code is responsible for just that highlighted part in our template.

So we find the element we want to change and left-click on the line with the code of that element.

Then we can look at its style on the right and try to make some changes right away. Then, when we did what we wanted and saw the desired result, we go to the admin panel of the blog and edit the CSS style file. Save it, go to the blog, refresh the page and see that the changes took effect.

Thus, you can find any element in the template, change it, find out the exact name for the adjustment in the main template file.

WordPress requires constant updating. But for those who have only recently started working with WordPress and have not yet had time to understand all the intricacies of the work, this action seems simply impossible.

After all, if done incorrectly, there is the possibility of losing information that you have contributed with great difficulty. For those who still do not venture to update WordPress, but really need it, experienced users recommend copying the blog (that is, all the blog files) to your computer. And in case of loss, you can easily restore all the information data.

So, you do decide to update. Keep in mind that when you update WordPress, all the system files and basic templates will also change. Don’t be afraid of that. Just save the important changes on your computer.

All new versions get any changes or improvements. Therefore, at times there are minimum requirements that are higher than previous ones. Before you start the upgrade process, it is worth checking such requirements on the page where they are posted. Since the page is filled with information in English, knowledge of this language will be necessary. You can use a special computer terminology rather than the usual one.

Next, copy all the important files with the settings. As we said above, this is a very important step. Experienced users advise you to copy and save your blog to your computer regardless of the update processes. That way you will have a more complete saved version.

At the end it is worth disabling plugins. And the next step is to make that very update. You can choose the automatic option. In the end, delete the cache and plugins.
